Cruttenden
I was not able to find a site to give me a lot of historical information on the Cruttenden surname origin. I will post what I have found and suggest that anyone with more information forward it to me.
Origin Displayed: English
The name Cruttenden has a long Anglo-Saxon heritage. The name is derived from when the family lived in the village of Crotynden, which later became Cruttenden, which was in the county of Kent.
Spelling variations include: Crittenden, Cruttenden, Critenden, Crutenden and many more.
First found in Kent where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: George Crittenden who arrived in San Francisco in 1852 with his wife, six children, and two servants; Albert Crittenden, who arrived in Philadelphia in 1876.
Additionally, I found another Web-site called Cruttenden Connections that may be a useful source for information for family members wishing to research this part of the familytree.
